Reading from my hardcopy version of Activity Statement update 2008-09 Q1:
"Record Keeping in the electronic environment
Taxpayers are generally required to keep records for a minimum of five years. If
you use electronic records, use storage media with a minimum life expectancy of
five years. If your bookkeeper or other third party keeps your records, make
sure they are aware of this advice"
I would guess it is the electronic version of this single sheet a4 double sided
paper that is available as a 1MB pdf! here:
<http://www.ato.gov.au/businesses/content.asp?doc=/content/00162753.htm&pc=001/003/001/002/007&mnu=4715&mfp=001&st=&cy=1>
While I am well aware of the compatibility problems with versions of MSWord are
there also problems with MSExcel? Though ofcourse the critical one is PDF invoices.
