Whether or not tourist operators should be exempt from these taxes is a separate issue.  I was making the point that loss of the Great Barrier Reef would have very large economic implications quite apart from loss of biodiversity and other accompanying changes to the physical environment.

Unfortunately stopping runaway greenhouse effect is going to entail many compromises along the way.  If we don't make these compromises then we'll lose the political will and economic capacity to deal with it at all, with disastrous consequences.
