That seems odd, as AVI is MS' container. Perhaps there is an issue with the
format within the container. Given that the DVD {Video} player is OK with it
perhaps it is in MPEG2 or some other compressed format. That MS is not happy with.

It could be a filename issue... I have also had problems with upper and lower
case and Windows associating the correct application with the file.
DVD Players are support various formats including MP3.
