Anthony asked: <<Can someone fill me in on how IT for primary / secondary decisions are made?
And the answer is that it varies. A lot. Independent schools make the decision at the school. Catholics tend to be a mixture of local school decisions with some system support. Victorian Government schools have considerable autonomy with a lot of central support. NSW operates a very centralised system. Other States and Territories tend to fill the spectrum between those two.
The Federal Government is not involved in the decision making on particular types of access devices or software. For a general description of where we are up to see http://www.deewr.gov.au/Schooling/DigitalEducationRevolution/Documents/Dig.Ed.Rev%20A4%20Fact%20Sheet%20(final).pdf (yes Tom it is a PDF - sorry). We have published advice on computer deployment issues at http://www.deewr.gov.au/Schooling/DigitalEducationRevolution/Resources/guide/AbouttheGuide/Pages/Abouttheguide.aspx. We have also published documents about the overall strategic intent of the Digital Education Revolution at: http://www.deewr.gov.au/Schooling/DigitalEducationRevolution/Pages/DigitalEducationRevolutionStrategicPlanandImplementationRoadmapandAdvice.aspx.
