Well - to make that possibility part of the standard, not to mandate its
actual use. IPSec. IPv6 works quite well without it, and there are many
ways to secure a connection.

Only if they are using IPSec. It's not essential at all, any more than
it is with IPv4. Those that want it and need it go that way, others do
not (or use something else).
IPv6 is a great deal more *like* IPv4 than it is *unlike* IPv4.
