This week, Parallels released a software package it’s calling Parallels
Desktop Switch to Mac Edition.

At first blush, a Parallels watcher might wonder what’s new about this
software. After all, Parallels has sold PC virtualization software for a
long time, allowing people to run Microsoft’s Windows on their Macs from
Apple.

But with the new package, Parallels claims it’s making the move over to a
Mac even easier for longtime Windows users.

The switching package handles all the basics you would expect. You can
run full-blown Windows on your Mac. And, in a nice touch, Parallels has
placed the Windows Start Menu right in the Mac OS X dock.

This means that you can start a Windows application like Internet
Explorer or Word and work with that software within the standard Mac OS X
user interface. So, you don’t have to flip back and forth between
operating systems.

And, as you might expect, Parallels ships a cable with the software for
shuffling files over from a PC to a Mac. The software costs (US) $100 ..

Cheers,
Stephen
