Emergency 2.0 Australia, is part of the Australian Government 2.0
Taskforce looking at how Social Media can assist in Emergency Management
<http://gov2em.net.au/>.

In my view Social Networking, the Internet and web, have a useful role
in emergency communications:

The Emergency 2.0 Australia website is incorrect in suggesting that the
February Victorian Bushfires saw the emergence of the use of social
media and web2.0 technologies. The disaster just brought them to public
prominence via the media. These were already being planned, tested and
deployed elsewhere.

Disaster management using IT needs to be carefully planned and tested.
