Very simple: opening 50+ feeds and the resultant 500 stories in a web
browser is clunky, cluttered and painful. An RSS reader does it so
much more elegantly. If nothing else, RSS readers are about a thousand
times better at managing feeds than any browser or mail client I've
found.
But apart from that, I *work* in the web environment, whereas I *read/
research* in the RSS environment. I like to keep them apart, and it
keeps my mind uncluttered as a bonus. I can start the day by browsing
the feeds, then move onto the serious stuff of the day.
I suppose that one could extend the argument and say, 'Why not use a
web browser for *everything* (since you pretty much can these days) -
and I can give you many reasons why choosing the best tool for the job
works for people like me.
