I used a fire safe for daily backup tapes (plus a weekly offsite
archive).

According to the specs, the safe could be pulled from the rubble of a
collapsed building and the tapes would be ok (provided the door was kept
closed!) but we never put this to the test. The protection was based on
good insulation, thick walls and a significant thermal mass.
