Indeed. For a community which always says to "go to the source" when  
writing and debugging code, the open source zealots, sorry, advocates  
seem remarkable poor at applying that same principle in other fields  
before kicking off with their wild speculations.

But then, just because someone's very clued up about parameter-passing  
in function calls to the Linux TCP/IP stack or whatever, it doesn't  
mean they have a clue about anything else in the world.

As I gather more ACTUAL information, including the "Update/ 
Clarification" on the original blog at http://blogs.mysql.com/kaj/2009/01/12/on-open-source-and-open-competition-in-a-not-so-open-world/ 
  ... well, the story starts to morph into "The geek world goes  
aflutter with lots of paranoid speculation but no facts, only to  
discover this could be quote routine".

Still digging, though...
