As usual, Glen gets to the heart of the matter.

As the redoubtable Bruce Schneier has pointed out, every security
increase is a trade-off against convenience, and in this case that
includes the convenience of being able to maintenance efficiently.
Schneier's canonical example is locking the doors of your house. Yes,
you have the added inconvenience of having to remember your keys and
having to fiddle with them to get back inside. But the trade is that
you then make your house and its contents invulnerable to anyone who's
not willing to put in more effort than turning the doorknob. It's
still vulnerable to anyone who's willing to put in a bit of effort and
knows how to pick a lock, but you could put in more expensive and
inconvenient countermeasures, all the way up to posting armed guards
who may well cost you more than your furniture is worth in the first
place.
