Even with the proper LAN, the performance can drag at the pipe level. 
I attend the Melbourne PC User Group once a month and we can always 
tell when a training session is happening in the other room. And 
we're on ethernet. You may not have the same issue since you say you 
aren't connecting to the Internet itself, but there may be throughput 
issues beyond the number of routers.
