Telstra to send fire warning SMS

In a Victorian first, Telstra will send an emergency information text 
message to more than two million Victorians this afternoon, warning 
about tonight's extreme weather and fire conditions.

Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Steve Fontana said Telstra and 
other networks would send the information by SMS later today.
