[LINK] Telstra to do SMS message

So as we discussed last month - SMS does not appear to work.
The reason that non Telstra takes so long is that in 1997, Ziggy allowed
Telstra to fix the interconnect exchange ports at each exchange at 2 MBs
(1 x E1) - Phil Jacobs (ex Bell South) attempted to intercede, but was
outvoted by level 29 Miller St.

This bottleneck is now made obvious when a statewide alert is made via
SMS.

It is obvious from the timing that Telstra has the clearest delivery
bandwidth with secondary carriers suffering the interconnect congestion.

This means that either the interconnect ports need to be all upgraded to
OC-48 immediately, or the Government rely on another alternative to get
the message out.

Or Alternatively - Telstra give everyone a free Telstra phone for timely
emergency updates. After all - they received the commercial advantage
from the anti-competitive commercial manuevourings in 1996-97.

When Telco behaviour results in lives being in danger, it is time to do
something.
