With the NSW Labor Party as the Republican government? Led by
Brendan Nelson, the Coalition will lead an armed rebellion that
will take control of half the state and the outer areas of Sydney.
The rest of Australia will impose an arms boycott that will prevent
the Labor Government getting weapons, but conservative New Zealand
will send troops and supplies to help the Coalition. In desperation,
the Government will accept weapons and advisors from Indonesia, and
the hithertoo small Indonesian community will expand and effectively
take control of the state, supressing the union movement in doing so.
Bellingen will be flattened by New Zealand bombers, in an attack that
arouses international indignation. Volunteers from around the world
will travel to NSW to fight for the Labor Government.
It is all in vain, however, as a divided Government loses popular
support and Coalition tanks roll into Sydney after three years of
fighting. Labor leaders and unionists flee to Queensland.

I can't seem to make this analogy work. I think maybe France in
1789 would be a better fit - some situation in which the government
is highly unpopular, anyway!
