I call it the dummy filter designed to protect the Tom Koltais of the
world from typing cpio -m/dev/* > /dev/null
Yep - I did..... Ok it was 5:00 am after an intensive rebuild of 12
servers but......
Sort of like a protective all enveloping korn shell...

(Actual feedback from a very hacked (improved) version of a late '80's
korn shell that we ran on an ICL 6/32MP running svrV.4.3 that was used
for training unix newbies - each newbie had their own virtual
file-sytem).
