To take advantage of the strengths of the platform to deliver a better  
user experience.

iPhone users, for example, expect an application to have the same  
gesture interface as other things on their iPhone. A standard mobile  
website will not have that. People are therefore less likely to use  
the site, and therefore less likely (in the ABC's case) to consume the  
content.

Perhaps consider it Browser Wars Mark II. Or is it Mark III now?
