In "Humanitarian Twittermifan" (May 26th 2009) the Sahana Disaster
Management System blog discusses the use of Twitter-like microblogs
for humanitarian relief
<http://talksahana.com/2009/05/26/cipcip-the-humanitarian-twitter/>.

The particular application mentioned is for the World Food Program
internal communication
<http://wfpdelivers.blogspot.com/2009/05/cipcip-it-is-not-what-you-do-but-who.html>.

This is implemented using open source microblogging package
<http://laconi.ca/trac/>Laconica <http://laconi.ca/trac/> for the
server and <http://twhirl.org/>Twhirl as the desktop client
<http://twhirl.org/>.

ps: In "National Bushfire Warning System: Micro-blogging for
emergencies" I suggested the use of Twitter-like systems for use in
bushfires: <http://www.tomw.net.au/technology/it/bushfire_warning_system>
