Given the cost of a 24x7 data centre, staff, redundancy, backup gear and
high volume net-facing comms, won't basic economics drive most small and
medium businesses into the cloud sooner or later? Trust and familiarity
seem to me to be the main obstacles.

There's a bit of re-engineering of applications and change of work
practices (and a bit of competition to drive the retail cost down) but
why pay 100% of the cost of a el cheapo data centre rather than a tiny
fraction of the cost of a good one?
