Had the exact same idea.
First problem: The privacy statement (footer of the web page) is
behind a javascript (or so I thought). Turned off No-script. Still
nothing. Wait! If you wiggle your mouse just right, you can right
click it to get a 'copy link' then open a new window and read it. (at
least that's what I had to do -- It wouldn't activate with a click. I
use Firefox 3.6)
Here's the link if you wish to read it:
http://www.myki.com.au/Home/Privacy-Statement/Privacy-Statement/default.aspx
First it focuses on the info collected by use of the website.
Someone needs to edit this statement because it is all about the
future. Nothing has apparently been done to it since the release of
the myki card into operation.
According to the website you can order an anonymous card and details
will be deleted after 30 days.
When using Myki:
Personal information will be used and disclosed by Public Transport
Authorities for the purpose for which it was collected, which will be
***explained at the time of collection***. Personal information may
be disclosed to third parties for other purposes in limited
circumstances which are explained in the full Privacy Policy.

BTW, this document confirms that as a state enterprise, it must
comply with the Victorian Information Privacy Act, NOT the
Commonwealth Act (covers Commonwealth public agencies and the Private
Sector generally, which the TTA is not). It is also subject to the
Victorian Surveillance Devices Act 1999.
I'll let you read the rest, boys and girls. It's not awful.
