MS's response -

"In closing, here’s where we stand:

    * In Office 2010, we’re providing read/write for Transitional and
read-only support for Strict.
    * We will include write support for Strict no later than the initial
release of Office 15. (More details will be forthcoming after we complete
our planning.)
    * We are committed to continuing to work closely with the community on
validation techniques, and we are actively using the available ISO/IEC 29500
validators to improve the quality of our implementation."
