And it's not just Gungahlin.

When I moved to Bruce in the ACT two years ago I had exactly the same
problem, although the local exchange is Belconnen.

The only option was Optus Wireless Broadband - 6Gbytes a month max at
$60pm. And their technology is suspect because sometimes other people's
traffic gets billed to my account. One month I went over the limit in
the first week of my billing cycle. Optus advised me not to use it for
the rest of the month and they would look at my traffic details then.
One of their technical people told be about the way the system would get
mixed up and do incorrect billing. So I was expecting a bill for excess
usage in the hundreds of dollars on my next bill.

It never happened. I was charged the same as usual even though the Optus
meter was showing over 7.5Gbytes for most of the month. I think that
Optus knows about their billing problem and quietly correct it if it is
causing trouble. They've also stopped putting usage details on the
monthly bills.

And like others on landlines, I suffer from slow downloads and dropouts
during the busy periods.

Anyway I've now moved to Nicholls, which is in the Gunghalin area. I
rang iinet on Friday last week to see if I could get ADSL2. They were
very helpful but told me all I could expect was ADSL which I'm about to
order. I'm now not sure I can even expect that.
