I doubt anything could prevent some people (yourself included) labelling Apple as a menace to freedom etc etc. ;)

Insert company X for "Apple" according to one's sense of politics, justice, allegiances, evils-of-capitalism etc.

[insert here 52 posts back and forth re-hashing ancient platform wars and other such tediousness]

Robin's counterfactual-historical questions was an interesting one. People do ask, sometimes, the "What if?" about Apple doing various things. Would Apple have been ever bigger and moar eviller? Much, much more interesting speculations to be had there, I think.
