They're working on it. :-)
Actually, 'publishing houses' isn't a good comparison. They are more 
selective filters and marketers than they are producers in today's 
world. If you hang around writers communities like I do, you'll find 
that self-epublishing is the current buzz. Greater pay-off for the 
author, too, if they can figure out the marketing bit. And with viral 
marketing and networking, that's not too difficult, either.
