To me, the two surprises are:
- some people are surprised that DDOS can be effective
- one of the more effective DDOS attacks has been carried out,
not in the proper sense of 'cyberwarfare', but as,
let's see now, maybe 'an uncivil protest action'
The concerns to me are that this action will:
- rally only a small proportion of the opponents of net censorship
- alienate a proportion of the opponents of net censorship
- rally the moral minority (who already knew that the likes of
link-subscribers are anarchists or nihilists*, and now have proof)
- strengthen the behind-closed-doors hand of the national security
extremists and the moral minority extremists, and indeed thrust
them together. (Not all Crew-Cuts are Christian fundamentalists)
* Okay, agreed, not many of the moral minority know what any of the
several meanings of nihilism are ...
