A coincidence or karma? There have been reports from around the world
of a number of road safety cameras going off the rails in recent days.

First it was a red-light camera in Florida which developed a fault
that caused it to flash like a disco strobe every time a vehicle
passed by. A traffic camera generating conditions similar to those
where people have fun? Unheard of..

Then came news from the other side of the world that a British man
who was sent two speeding fines had successfully contested them by
proving his car was standing still at the time of the offence.

Jeff Buck regularly parks in front of the camera outside his home in
Watnall Road, Nottingham. Other vehicles triggered the camera and
police analysts were unable to tell his vehicle was stationary at the
time of the offences.

Finally, a French speed camera in the town of Rouillac was found to
be generating penalties for drivers who were abiding by the speed
limit. According to Charente Libre, the camera, which is in a 70km/h
zone, decided it would penalise any car that exceeded 50km/h.

French law says you must first pay a fine if you wish to dispute it
and so the mayor was forced to make a significant number of refunds.

Our truest response to the irrationality of the world is to paint or
sing or write, for only in such response do we find truth.
