Three tried that on me some time ago.
i told them that i had a right to a writen receipt for any transaction.
they backed down instantly and offered to "exempt" me. i guess they knew
they were on very shaky legal ground with that, and instructed their
staff accordingly.
(why do i want a paper bill? i don't, really....mostly i just don't want
to give them my email address because they're likely to think that me
buying a service from them entitles them to spam me. they still spam me
with ads in the same envelope as the bill, but at least that's limited
by the fact that it only happens once a month and it costs them real
money to print the ads).
