Linkers may be interested in this speech from 2000 by musician Courtney Love, in which she clearly lays out the economics of the music industry from the artists' point of view (it sucks) and how digital distribution can change things and is changing things.

What's astounding is that this was back when Napster and the emerging Gnutella were seen (at least by the music business) as the threat, and way before Apple's iTunes Store and BitTorrent transformed things. And yet what she says is spot on today.

She makes many, many good points. Enjoy.
