It's the standard 30-pin port that is found on all iPods and iPhones: USB on steroids, actually. There was a call for Apple to adopt the USB-mini standard for a charging port, but since the 30-pin offers so much more than USB can offer, Apple will stick to their 30-pin, with video/audio in/out, complete control of the device, and charging - not to mention compatibility with all other portable devices that they make.
