Precisely. Just as I tell people that a netbook is no substitute for a
full-sized PC, though an incredibly useful adjunct for those who have
the need, an iPud is no substitute for either.
I need my ~$1k PC and I can easily justify my ~$500 netbook. If I had an
iPad I'd have to justify another ~$900 plus, ostensibly, a significant
amount for 3G traffic. Some people wouldn't blink about that, but I'd
have to ask myself what extra functionality, over my PC and my netbook,
it offers that justifies the outlay of what, to me, is a significant
amount of hard-earned.
I'd expect that any government buying iPads for students has both asked
and answered that question.
