With the 2.5 software update, my Kindle 2 is now able to browse the
web, though many websites look displaced.

As for iPad comparisons (or Netbooks), I've never put the Kindle in
the same boat. For the purpose of reading the Kindle's display suits
my eyes much better than the intensity of the iPad screen. It also
fits neatly into the back of a plane seat during flights. But each to
their own.
