Both Richard and I are right, but he is more right than me. :) It depends on the election date, actually, and whether it's a double dissolution or not.
If it's not a DD, there would still have to be another half-Senate election before mid-2011. The government, any government, would try to avoid over-burdening the punters with elections, particularly as we have a Victorian state election late 2010 and a NSW state election in March 2011.
Labor would be particularly likely to avoid a separate Senate half-election as they may not do as well in the polls.
Any any event, if there is an election in August or September, as now seems likely, and if Conroy was not on the ballot for that election, then he would be in the first half of next year.
