More efficient perhaps, but is it more effective?
In my area (moderately remote, with an inconveniently-placed mountain
and noisy mains power), digital TV is frequently useless. What caused
moderate distortion to analogue broadcasts makes a complete hash of
digital. Then again, there are more channels that I can't watch. 8->

At what price to the end user? Bearing in mind that it's current use is
_free_ to air.
