I've been playing with the stats over at Bureau of meteorology
(bom.gov.au) with some interesting insights.
Australian Climate Extremes - Trend maps
It is interesting to view the following URL's in the sequence presented:
Highest Maximum Temp
http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/climate/change/extremes/trendmaps.cgi?map=
TXmx&period=1950
http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/climate/change/extremes/trendmaps.cgi?map=
TXmx&period=1960
http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/climate/change/extremes/trendmaps.cgi?map=
TXmx&period=1970
The site also allows hottest nights coldest nights etc.
The conclusion is that we have more hotter days and nights in the last
forty years then in the two decades preceding the 70's.
The stats are hard to argue with (bom) have been collecting temperature
data for Sydney since 1859.
A story in Crikey earlier this year suggested that 7454 MW of new power
stations would built using coal based fuels.

ed-power-hotter-than-ever/
Possibly the time is right for tomorrows generation to have a say in
their children's futures.
