Independent senator Nick Xenophon says the federal government has
backed down and is now prepared to release a full summary of its
national broadband network (NBN) business plan.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard confirmed the government would today
release a 50-page document that was important to telecommunications
reform in Australia.

"We will be releasing a 50-page document that summarises the NBN Co
business case," she said.

"I have determined to do this in consultation and joint work with the
[Communications Minister Stephen Conroy] after a series of detailed
discussions with the independent senators and of course we are
continuing to engage closely with the cross-bench members of the
House of Representatives who supported the national broadband network
and supported this bill."
