Some presenters take it as an insult, if they see you typing on a

Tablet computer users have the advantage of being less conspicuous. If
the screen on my netbook would open another 45% I could get the same
result by opening it flat on the desk. Unfortunately the double capacity 
battery on the Kogan Agora sticks out the back, getting in the way.

Something like the PADACS "Toccata" iPad case, which has a built in 
rubber keyboard, looks more comfortable to me:

No, the lecture theatre was full of people at the MoodlePosium. But
I could only see what the dozen people near me had on the desk in front
of them.

ps: I have found the ANU's newer "Harvard" style theatres to be better
for using gadgets in. These have a raised section in front of the 
student fitted with power points. The student can happily type away with 
their gadget plugged in, without this being visible from the front of 
the room.
