I think this is the key to making cloud/SaaS/ASP work and which had
failed to generate sufficient interest in the past. Separation of data
from the device is what is driving social networking and the Google
phenomenon.
What stops me and I am sure many others at various points in their life,
is TRUST. Do I trust the storer of my information (data) to not only
keep it safe but also to not do anything with it or to it that I would
not want to have happen, including compliance with law enforcement.
I am about ready to embrace separation since I began using my most
recent smart phone as more than a phone, but still am reluctant to put
myself at the mercy of networks to access the internet or the purveyors
of fine quality and/or free (and fine quality) storage repositories.
I guess I am one of those like you roger, a miserable old bastard ;).
