Kim,

The duration of backup depends on the scale of the exchange. A major 
exchange with twin diesel generators will obviously last longer than a 
country exchange in a colourbond container. I would also guess that 
staffed exchanges get more diligence and monitoring of batteries than do 
remote sheds.

The question remote monitoring of batteries has been discussed, I seem 
to recall, but I don't think it's been decided one way or the other.
