This is a case for wireless services - so, you can contact
your friends rather than their house.
Restoration/Deployment of wireless is also easier. Perhaps
wireless telephones could provide more effective voice backup.
If you loose power, to your home/business are you going to
be able to use any of the NBN additional services (TV/High
Speed Computer Access) anyway?
Ofcourse, as power outages due to peakloads become more
frequent - perhaps we will need to consider battery backups
for fridges as well.
