Just a personal anecdote, but I am an Opticomm FTTH customer in Victoria
and my ONT was installed with a battery backup by default, at no cost to
me for either the ONT or the battery.

Given that we're on a brand-new estate, there are plenty of active
construction sites and civil works still progressing. This means the
power gets shutoff more often than usual. My experience is that the
battery for the ONT lasts 8-12 hours with both Internet and TV services
active.

However, as my APC UPS only runs the router/switch hardware for about an
hour, I don't know if the longevity is based on the fact that all the
Internet traffic has stopped. :)

Cheers,
Avi
