The firebrigade offers the elderly a battery replacement 
service for their fire alarms. Apparently, they turn up in 
the big red fire engine. I guess it makes a good change from 
playing cards waiting for a fire and they will get to know 
their neighbourhood should there be an emergency.

Elderly also need to replace batteries in hearing aids. It 
seems to me a discussion about a improved access device may 
be warranted. Should there be some discussion about the 
termination devices - do we need an new version of the POTs 
handset - with options for fire, medic alert etc.
