Dear colleagues,

In case you missed it on our web site, I'd like to invite you to a lunch hour UNSW LawTechTalk by an eminent academic visiting briefly from Indonesia.

LawTechTalk: Development and Implementation of CyberLaw in Indonesia

Speaker: Dr. Sinta Rosadi Dew, Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.

Venue: UNSW Law Room 101 - 2 November, 1-2.

URL: http://cyberlawcentre.org/2010/talks/ltt_sinta.htm

Indonesia recently passed a new regulation dealing with cyberspace and online activities, the Information and Electronic Transaction Act (Law Number 8, 2008). The law covers jurisdiction, e-contract, privacy, IP rights and criminal liability. However this law has many loopholes and weaknesses -- see for instance the Prita and Ariel cases. Indonesia is also in the process of ratifying the EU Cybercrime Convention for incorporation to the national system, which introduces further changes and potentially controversial obligations.

Dr. Sinta Dewi has been a lecturer in the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia since 1991. She received her Master's Degree in Law at F Washington College of Law, American University, Washington D.C. USA and finished her PhD at Padjadjaran University in privacy in e-Commerce and its model of regulation for Indonesia.

She majored in International law, however for the last 10 years she has focused on cyberlaw, particularly online privacy law. She has researched and published several articles and books including Privacy Law and International Law; State Practices in Regulating Privacy in Cyberspace (2009). She writes articles in Indonesian journals relating to legal aspects of e-Commerce, and harmonising cybercrime law in ASEAN countries.

Entry is free, no need to book. Please RSVP to feedback [at] cyberlawcentre.org if coming from off campus.

Regards,
David
