At present soldiers have to carry different sized batteries for
different equipment. The approach of the French Army has been to
rationalise the sizes and numbers of batteries used, the connectors and
the charging system, with their Fantassin à Équipement et Liaisons
Intégrés (FÉLIN): <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FÉLIN>.
The US Special Operations Command is taking a slightly different
approach, with a recent request for a Google Android, IP and Web based
"Tactical Situational Awareness Application Suite" (TactSA). This would
allow a low power tablet computer to be used for multiple purposes:
