Actually I believe the big US carmakers are not actually profitable.   
That's why they recently had to be bailed out by the US govt.  They  
were broke.  Other carmakers are profitable and the more profitable  
ones make smaller cars.  The more profitable carmakers that sell in  
the US market make smaller cars not made by the big US carmakers.

Sorry but without that "profitable" argument the rest of your argument  
doesn't stand.

They are already doing that.  Didn't I read recently that Hummers had  
been discontinued?
