Was this just a setup for that terrible joke?  That's a dirty trick.

I went on the dutch sailing boat when it was at the maritime museum in Sydney some time in 2000.  It was a replica and they'd just sailed it from Holland.  I think it was the duyfken <http://www.duyfken.com/replica/intro.html>.  They had a real toilet down below but a replica of the original heads up the front.  They told us the sailors wiped with the frayed end of a wet rope.
