At yesterday's NBNCo Customer forum, in Sydney, there was a
quip that Aerial Fibre as is being deployed in Townsville is
easier to install an subject to destruction but easier to
restore. While underground is particularly difficult to
install in rocky areas and when damaged more difficult to
repair.

Apparently the NBNCo is in Tender discussions to select a
Wireless provider. There was lots of talk about openness and
transparency - however, the RFT is not public. Some Info on
Partners and Tenderers here:

> Before it's even been rolled out in major Cities like Melbourne and Sydney the NBN roll out is in trouble in Queensland, with contractors who now set to have to relay fibre to homes, incurring significant additional costs. Ironically the Telstra NextG network stayed up during the Cyclone, with TV networks broadcasting live streaming from Townsville using Wireless technology not fibre.

> THE federal government said it would closely examine damage to its overhead-fibre NBN trial site in Townsville in the wake of tropical cyclone Yasi.
