It's called the Christmas holidays. WikiLeaks' people take a break. Assange is on house arrest doing nothing. Courtrooms and their lawyers are on holidays. Journalists and editors are on holidays and there's only skeleton staff doing set-piece work.

News, in brief, is a manufactured product. When the factories close down there isn't any.
