Hi,
while I understand the impact of the floods on individuals who are up there
experiencing the worst of it, I just wanted to report that this is starting
to have a wider impact on IT services around the country....

For example the AUSCERT systems run out of UQ are seemingly just hanging on,
but the CUA credit union (of which I am a member) has definitely gone below
the surface.

I tried to do some online banking today, but the CUA website informs me
that the online banking system is down. No problems, I'll use the
evil phone system...... .....nope - that's down too, with calls directed to
a call centre to someone not in this country. All is not lost though,
CUA is letting us draw up to $725 from the nominated account/ATM until
the crisis is over.

I thought I would just mention this as many of us don't expect the floods
to have an impact down here in Sydney, but no one was prepared for this
and no one is immune!

It does beg the question as to why the CUA would not have a geoclustered
datacentre or similar offsite ability to maintain services......
