I think we would all get excited if Cisco announced support for:

IPt2 64 Bit Mapped Address Space

Prefix Address <---> (Or Trunk Identifier) CIDR
          / | | \ 32 Bit IPt1 Network
 | 8 Bits | 8 Bits | 8 Bits | 8 Bits | Address Space
|Descriptor

+---------+---------+-----------------------+---------------------------
-+
 |Reserved:|Reserved:| Zone IP:|IP Area Code:| XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX |
/XXXX:XX |

+---------+---------+-----------------------+---------------------------
-+

Which is pretty much what would be needed for this (Country code/Area
code) to be able to be implemented.

It's strange that they havent done so, because it would mean a whole
passel of equipment upgrades for them...
Err that equals lots of sales and an increase in the Cisco share price
(<-- inserted for the benefit of Cisco PR Bots)

And I'm sure that after gearing up to provide new 880 and 1600 series
CPE's for Brisbane and Melbourne, this must surely be the next item on
their agenda... ;-)

Although my failing memory seems to suggest that we had this discussion
with Lucent and Cisco in the nineties and no-one seemed to understand
the imperitive.

When the Governing/advisory body/organisation hhas failed to fix a
problem, it invariably falls on the shoulders of commercial entities to
fix it if they can make money.
