Despite being born in Melbourne, now a self-funded retiree, in 2 weeks
I'm outa here for good. Basically for the reason below. White sand and
palm trees and living very well. Doing voluntary uni lecturing .. haha,
and, happily leaving this economy (sigh) to live in and with a society.

Sydney and Melbourne are now the 6th and 7th most expensive cities on the
planet to live, an Economist Intelligence Unit's biennial cost of living
survey (released Thursday) revealed.

Significantly, Perth and Brisbane rose to 13th and 14th respectively.

"This is the culmination of a remarkable rise in the cost of living in
Australian cities over the last decade.."

It is now cheaper to live in London, Vienna, Rome, Berlin, Hong Kong and
Beijing than most Australian cities.

Tokyo took the "dubious" honour of the world's most expensive city, a
title it has held for much of the past two decades, with Osaka ranking
third.. Copyright © 2011 AFP. All rights reserved.
